Brian Blakeway (1920-2014) in his own words:

‘Ex Regular Soldier, Royal Engineers; trained in survey, parachuting, diving etc; served in many countries, including the war in Burma, the termination of our mandate in Palestine, and the formation of the separate States of India and Pakistan on partition.

Military service followed by 16 years service with the Foreign Office.

Throughout all service, sketched.

On retirement 32 years ago, attended Southampton College of Art – Abstract, and Exeter College of Art – Graphics. Exhibited in the Mall Galleries, London; illustrated for the National Trust, and Devon County Council, including a book on Devon Buildings; commissioned to pain a number of Country Houses, with the last commission being the headquarters of the Devon Wildlife Trust, Cricklepit Mill on Exeter Quay as it might have appeared in 1880.’
